Lamcot Year 2017: What Has Been Happening....

HELLO FRIENDS OF LAMCOT...
GREETINGS FOR THE FESTIVE SEASON…
Our regards to all our friends in conservation across the Lamu Archipelago, the Coastal region, and at
national and global levels as well.
Our appreciation to Tusk Trust www.tusk.org our main sponsors in the UK; whose financial support
continues to cater for our operational and programming costs.
In addition, we greatly appreciate all donations from both turtle nest and tag adopters. Special thanks to Hillcrest International School Year 4 kids; for their noble fundraising efforts and donation to our project this year.
LaMCoT is indebted to Carol Korschen and her late husband Lars (Management Peponi Hotel and
Pioneers of the Project). We appreciate Carol’s dedication, guidance and support to date; to the cause
of turtle protection and community empowerment here in Lamu, for the last two decades… and still
counting!!
Many thanks to all our partners; both state and non-state actors in the marine ecosystems space within
and outside of Lamu County: including department of fisheries, WWF, KESCOM, KWS, Watamu
Turtle Watch, Oceans Alive, Little Kenya Gardens Ltd and Ocean Conservancy. Looking forward to
more collaboration and engagement in the coming year and years to follow.
Not forgetting the LaMCoT team as well; including our beach patrollers and field officers for their zeal
and diligence in all matters conservation. We salute the local community here in Lamu; for joining us and owning this Project from inception. And helping us a big deal to increase the odds of survival for the endangered sea turtles.
